Your heels repeatedly hit the ground with considerable force when walking or running. If you experience heel pain it can be very disabling making every step a problem. Some of the most common types of heel pain are heel spurs, heel bursitis and heel bumps.

Heel spurs are normally most painful when you stand, particularly first thing in the morning when you get up. There are no visible features on your heel but you may find you have a deep localised painful spot around the middle of the sole of the heel.

Heel bursitis pain can be felt at the back of your heel when you move your ankle and you may notice swelling on both sides of your Achilles tendon.

Heel bumps are firm bumps on the back of your heel and can often rub on your shoes and cause pain.
