Autumn foot care

Autumn is here – sadly the long warm summer months are definitely over and unless you’re lucky enough to have a winter holiday booked it’s time to pack away your sandals and put on sturdier boots and shoes that will keep your feet warm and dry. Foot care is still important though and whilst snuggling up in front of the fire with thick socks on is one of the great comforts of darker nights don’t hide your feet away and forget about them all winter!

You might have noticed that you suffer with more hard skin on your feet during the colder months, this is because tighter shoes can create pressure and friction which causes the skin to thicken and create a protective barrier. However too much pressure or friction can trigger excessive thickening, resulting in the build up of problematic hard skin or callus.

Read more about the development of callus here. This build up of hard skin is a protective mechanism; it is your body’s way of creating an added layer of protection to protect the tissues underneath, there are useful tips about how to treat hard callused skin here

It’s important you use a moisturiser that’s been specifically developed for feet.  The Dr Anders Foot Care Range is a luxurious brand which is not only clinically effective but also smells and feels fantastic. All products have a unisex appeal and contain ingredients which are non-irritant, natural and cruelty free.

Dr Anders Intensive Rescue Balm is a unique non-greasy formula which deeply hydrates and absorbs exceptionally quickly to a soft silky finish leaving a veil of intense hydration on the skin. It is formulated with the following key ingredients:

• Urea – attracts water from the deeper layers of the skin, hydrating the cells and reducing the gaps. It also softens the cells in the surface layers and loosens them, enabling them to be shed more easily.

• Lactic acid – an AHA which gently breaks down the ‘glue like’ bonds between cells in the upper layer of the skin and triggers repair. This helps the hardened skin cells to fall off and helps the skin keep more water in, softening and improve the appearance of hard, callused skin.

• Olus oil – has excellent emollient and occlusive effects, moisturising the skin whilst acting as a barrier to moisture loss. It is hypoallergenic, and suitable for those with sensitive, dry and itchy skin conditions.

• Collodial oatmeal – relieves dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, acne, sunburn and brings soothing comfort to irritated skin.

• Vitamin E is known for its healing and protective effects.

• Lanolin – penetrates deeply and creates a barrier in the underlying layers of skin to prevent moisture from escaping.

• Dermasoft Decalact – a powerful antimicrobial proven to eliminate the Trichophyton species of fungus. It is 100% natural and ECOCERT registered.

• Thuja occidentalis – commonly known as Arbor vitae or “Tree of Life” has been used for centuries as a medicinal and has been proven to have powerful antiviral and antifungal properties.
